It sounds like quite a bold decision.
From a stable job at Google with an enviable income, an international career, and more than 20 years of living in Europe, Thúy chose to return to Vietnam to do something completely different: organizing gatherings for single people.
When Career Success Doesn’t Necessarily Mean Life Happiness
Before co-founding Clique83, Thúy had spent more than two decades studying, living, and working in Europe. Her most recent career milestone was the role of Account Manager at Google. From the outside, everything looked perfect: a prestigious job, a strong income, a world-class working environment, and a clear career path. But there was one thing that always made Thúy reflect: while her career kept growing, building personal relationships and forming deeper connections with people around her was becoming increasingly difficult. This was not just her story, but also the experience of many successful young people today. They can achieve a lot in their careers but still struggle to find meaningful connections in life.
A Trip Back to Vietnam Changed Everything
That year, Thúy returned to Vietnam for a three-month trip. The trip was initially just a period of rest and reconnection with her homeland, but the longer she stayed, the more she realized one thing: Vietnam was developing very quickly, young people had more opportunities, technology made it easier for everyone to connect, but paradoxically, more and more people were feeling lonely. Even with hundreds of social media connections, countless dating apps, and the ability to talk to anyone with just a few taps on a phone, building real relationships was still a challenge. And that was when the idea of Clique83 began to take shape.
The Founding Question Behind Clique83
After returning to Vietnam, Thúy met Hân. Through many conversations, they kept coming back to the same question: “Why do we have more ways to connect than ever before, yet feel more and more lonely?” It is a seemingly simple question, but it reflects a much larger reality of modern society. The more choices there are, the more connection platforms exist, and the more online opportunities we have, the harder it becomes to create genuine connections. Instead of building another app for people to keep swiping and texting, Thúy and Hân decided to try a different direction: bringing people back to real-life encounters.
Clique83: When Love Begins with Real Encounters
Clique83 is built on a simple belief: meaningful connections often begin when two people actually meet, not through left or right swipes, not through weeks of online chatting, but through face-to-face conversations, eye contact, and emotions that a phone screen cannot fully convey. From its first connection events, Clique83 quickly attracted attention from the single community in Vietnam. After more than 18 months of operation, over 22,000 people have joined the waiting list for Clique83’s connection experiences, showing that the demand for real-life meetings remains very strong, especially among young people looking for serious relationships.
From Dating Events to the Coffee Date Matching Web App
As the community grew, the Clique83 team realized that not everyone fits into large social events. Some people prefer more private, focused, and deeper interactions. From that insight, Coffee Date was created. It is a 1:1 matching web app built on a different philosophy: match means meet. Instead of extending endless conversations on screens, Coffee Date enables two people to meet in real life as soon as both agree to explore the connection. The goal is not to create more matches, but to create more quality meetings.
When Encounters Turn Into Families
What makes the Clique83 team most proud is not the number of sign-ups, but the stories that have continued from those connections. To date, the Clique83 community has recorded 6 married couples, 2 babies born, hundreds of couples currently in happy relationships, and thousands of friendships and new connections formed. And interestingly, Thúy herself also found her life partner through this journey, a testament that sometimes, while helping others connect, we unintentionally find our own connection as well.
The Goal of Connecting 1,000,000 Singles in Vietnam
From resigning from Google and returning to Saigon to organize meetups for single people, Thúy and Hân are now pursuing a much bigger goal: connecting 1,000,000 single people in Vietnam. This is certainly not a short journey, nor an easy one. But if a single meeting today can become a love story in the future, if a conversation can turn into a lasting friendship, if a date can become a small family later on, then it is a journey truly worth pursuing. Because in the end, what makes life meaningful is not only the achievements we reach, but also the people we meet along the way. And perhaps, the encounter that changes your life is already waiting just ahead.
